Just realised that it is more than a year since we acquired the loathed MFM. And yes, folks, I still hate it, hate it, hate it! The only thing about it that has improved is the smell which has - I'm pleased to report - gone. Everything else about it is just as bad if not worse, and no - I haven't got used to it. In fact I have had the worst year's sleep of my entire life. Some nights I give up on it entirely and resort to my son's room (he is living elsewhere at the moment!) where I can sleep on his lovely, firm, big but undeniably bouncy sprung bed. I go to bed very very late in an effort to avoid the dreaded MFM, and get up very early because my sleep is so disturbed. I do sleep, obviously, but I never feel rested. I wake up with palpitations because I seem to get trapped in one spot, unable to move. I get a sore back and sore hips. But the very worst thing of all about it is the heat which is absolutely unbearable. I thought it was me, but it just doesn't happen on other mattresses.
I STILL HATE MY MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS.
Sadly, my husband still loves it. The only solution (I have investigated all possible options) would be to buy two matching single beds. He could have memory foam on one. I could have a nice normal sprung mattress on the other. That way I might resume some kind of normal sleep pattern. But at the moment, it's just too expensive to replace bed and bedding. Maybe some kindly bed manufacturer out there will take pity on me....

Hi Catherine.
I hope you can solve your problem soon as you need your sleep.Just buy one single bed for you and squeeze it in somewhere and leave hubby with his beloved to himself.
Hugs Mary.
Hi Cathrine,
I have the exact same problem I'm a Scot living in tasmania, we got ours last week I hate it this morning I got to sleep at 7am when I should have been getting up.
You know, you can buy mattresses that have two different halves - so he could have the dreaded memory foam and you could have whatever it is you'd prefer.
Talking of memory foam, did you hear about the slippers? Ask Janet.
Yes, I heard about the slippers! And sadly, you can't pair memory foam with ordinary mattresses because they are very different thicknesses. I've enquired. Single beds is the only solution!
I'm with you on hating memory foam. I seem to stay in bed a little less each night, retreating to the couch or crawling into bed with my 3-year-old (role reversal!). I've been searching the internet for a solution on how to make this awful bed more comfortable, but all I can find are rave reviews about how great it is.
I do so agree! The internet is full of rave reviews, but there must be quite a lot of us out there who hate them!
I have a thick blanket folded in half twice. Sleeping on it, I can actually get a half decent sleep (until my toddler crawls in and bulldozes me away from it, but the bed can't be blamed for him!). I think next I'll try foam. I can get a twin-sized foam topper for my half of the bed without disturbing my hubby's side at all. The only thing is, the pad has to be thick enough to keep body heat from getting to the memory foam. Once the foam starts to warm, it's literally all down hill!
You're right - never thought of a twin size foam topper but I might try that as well. It's when body heat hits the memory foam that the trouble starts but we can't be the only ones feeling like this! I also think they prevent normal movement through the night. In fact they use that feature to advertise the wretched things - but I reckon if you normally toss and turn dozens of times each night, that's because you're meant to - not because it's some sort of fault with a normal mattress!
I know my mother doesn't even like memory foam toppers! You're right, though. We can't be the only three women in the world who hate the stuff. Last night my little boy (bless him) stayed in his own bed all night. I was right. Having the blanket folded to the proper thickness and not being shoved off of it kept me from sinking and I actually woke up pain free! Take heart, a new mattress may not be the only solution!
Nope your not alone! I hate it now and hated them when I first saw them. But I never imagined they would take over the market. I am in the USA and can not find the comfy "old" springy style foam. The type that gently supports and feels like a cloud ahhhh. My daughter has one that I bought for her about 6 years ago that is a dream! 3" thick, no pattern just simple lines cut every 6 inches about half way through the foam and it was a mere $19.99.
For the last year I have been searching for one, anything like what she has, and can't find ANYTHING even close to it. Its all this memory foam stuff, UGH. I just keep waiting and praying some company will bring the old stuff back.
